Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60.00 per hour starting (with higher rates for providing clinical supervision).

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist & Manager to support our
rapidly growing group mental health practice. The ideal candidate will possess a strong
background in medical billing—specifically within behavioral health—and will play a key role in
managing the full revenue cycle process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional
service for both clients and staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Revenue Cycle Management:
    • Verify client insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage
    • Submit and manage insurance and EAP claims
    • Process client payments and apply to appropriate dates of service
    • Generate and distribute client invoices, superbills, and receipts
  • Electronic Health Record Maintenance:
    • Audit billing components of client charts for accuracy
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations on periodic chart reviews
    • Generate regular reports for Director of Operations and CEO, per request
  • Client & Staff Support:
    • Manage the billing specialist email inbox
    • Respond promptly and professionally to billing-related inquiries from clients and
    • staff
  • Compliance & Privacy:
    • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and client confidentiality protocols
  • Assist in building internal billing support team
    • Assist in hiring additional billing staff to complete all relevant tasks
    • Delegate tasks appropriately
    • Oversee and manage the performance of billing staff

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
  • Intermediate tech skills; comfortable learning and navigating EHR and billing systems
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Exceptional customer service with a focus on clear, empathetic communication
  • Collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing mental illness, with compassion and professionalism
  • Cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations

Education & Experience

  • Required:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in medical billing and coding
    • Prior experience in behavioral health billing and coding
    • Familiarity with Colorado insurance payers and systems
  • Preferred:
    • Spanish-speaking fluency
